Barrett Paving – New York Central
On Saturday, July 26, 2025, Barrett Paving (NYC) proudly hosted its inaugural Cullen Gorden Memorial Golf Tournament at a local golf course in the Syracuse, NY area.
This event was organized to honor the memory of Cullen Gorden and to raise funds for an endowed scholarship at his alma mater, Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Cullen was a roller operator for Barrett Paving and worked with the company for 17 incredible years. During his time with Barrett, he operated everything from excavators to pavers but found that rolling was his favorite. In recognition of his contributions and spirit, Barrett Paving sought a meaningful way to honor Cullen’s memory. The idea for this tournament emerged, and everyone involved rallied together to support the establishment of a scholarship in his remembrance.

Seventy (70) of Cullen’s coworkers, friends, and family members gathered to celebrate his legacy while enjoying a day out on the green. The tournament featured various activities, including a raffle and prizes for top performers, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting students pursuing their education at Pennsylvania College of Technology ensuring that Cullen’s passion for learning and his commitment to helping others continue to live on.
Barrett Paving was able to raise over $4,000 to go towards this scholarship. This meaningful initiative not only honored Cullen’s memory but also aims to provide future generations with the opportunity to achieve their academic goals.

"[Cullen] was the teammate you wanted. Whatever needed to be done, he wasn’t afraid to jump in and get his hands dirty… He wasn’t like just one of those guys that would run the roller, and he wouldn’t help with anything else…if there was something that needed to be done, he was doing it. He was a team player.”
