Pavement Preservation

Barrett's Specialty Services

are uniquely positioned in the industry to provide customers with an all-encompassing suite of products and services.

While we are primarily an asphalt paving and aggregates producer/supplier company, through our close ties to sister companies within the Barrett Industries group, we have virtually unlimited access to provide Pavement Preservation and other specialty services through our global resources with local expertise.

The essence of pavement preservation is the application of the right treatment, to the right pavement, at the right time to save or delay future expenditures.

WHAT IS PAVEMENT PRESERVATION?
Pavement Preservation focuses on extending the lifecycle of highways by treating road surfaces much sooner in the aging process. This improves roadway safety and saves tax dollars because highways last longer.

Pavement preservation also protects the country’s natural resources. By preserving road surfaces that are already in place, we are able to use less virgin materials and tap in to fewer natural resource reserves, while giving off fewer emissions.

FiberMat® is a unique crack inhibiting treatment comprised of a spray applied highly elastomeric membrane that is then reinforced with a matrix of fiber, sandwiched between two layers of polymer modified asphalt emulsion. FiberMat® is applied in a single pass, with a patented machine, to form a continuous membrane, which seals pavement defects.

Crack fill is one of the most economical pavement preservation and maintenance tools for asphalt and concrete pavements. The combination of asphalt emulsion and fibers produces a strong yet flexible seal that bonds well to cracks. This process is the key to keeping water out of the pavement sub-base which in turn will help provide long pavement service life.

Aggregate materials are a precious resource that must be maintained. When a pavement is in complete disrepair, it is sometimes best to look into a total rehabilitation. In contrast to a standard mill and fill – the old surface is milled up and hauled away, then new mix is produced, hauled, and laid down – reclamation is done in place. Reclamation mills up the existing roadway materials, rejuvenates them, adds little virgin material if needed, and lays down a new surface all in place. This saves not only time but also wasted resources from hauling the materials back and forth from the asphalt plant.
